Florida Statutes 626.854 defines a “RESIDENT PUBLIC ADJUSTER” as any person who for money, commission, or any thing of value, prepares, completes, or files an insurance claim form for an insured or third-party claimant or who for money, commission, or any other thing of value, acts or aids in any manner on behalf of an insured or third-party claimant in negotiating for or effecting settlement of a claim or claims for loss or damage covered by an insurance contract or who advertises for employment as an adjuster of such claims, and also includes any person who, for money, commission, or any other thing of value, solicits, investigates, or adjusts such claims on behalf of any such public adjuster.

    Application Qualifications:

  • Complete an online application for License and submit appropriate fees.   Apply for license

  • Be a natural person at least 18 years of age.

  • Be a resident of the state of Florida.

  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.

  • Be fingerprinted at one of the Department's fingerprint sites. (Link directly to locations and additional information)

  • If licensed in another state within three years, provide a Letter of Clearance.

 

    State Examination Qualifications (There are no required pre-licensing courses)

    Exemptions from the State Examination (Beginning July 1, 2007, applicants for a public adjuster license can no longer exempt the

Special Notes

Applicant must file a $50,000 Surety Bond

Attorneys at law duly licensed to practice law in the courts of this state, and in good standing with The Florida Bar are exempt from having to obtain a license per Florida Statutes 626.860.

A public adjuster can only have one appointment.

There are (24) hours of continuing education required. (2-ethics, 10-laws; 12-optional)
