The Employee Assistance and Ombudsman Office reviews and analyzes denied claims filed
The Denials Team of the Division’s Employee Assistance and Ombudsman Office reviews total and partial denials to ensure compliance with the Workers’ Compensation Law. When necessary, team members telephone insurers for clarification regarding appropriateness, reasonableness, and additional details regarding the denial. This review also permits the Division to monitor and analyze denial trends in the industry. During FY 2008-2009, the Denials Team reviewed 26,246 total and 10,908 partial denials.

Division of Workers' Comp Non-Compliance Referral Database Produces Big Results
The Non-Compliance Referral Database allows individuals to submit referrals of alleged violations of the workers’ compensation laws. Since June the Division has received 328 referrals. As a result of those referrals, 36 Stop-Work Orders were issued, resulting in $526,000 in assessed penalties.
The Customer Service Call Center provided technical assistance to 121,494 Florida employers
During FY 2008-09, the Customer Service Call Center Employers' Helpline educated and assisted 121,494 employers with questions regarding workers' compensation coverage, exemption eligibility requirements, drug free workplace and safety credit programs. Over 3 million Health Care Provider Bills submitted for fiscal year 2008-2009
For Fiscal year 2008-2009, over three million medical Health Care Provider Bills (DWC-9) were submitted via EDI with a 96.05% acceptance rate. The acceptance rate has been consistent with previous year’s performance.
SDTF completes its reimbursements for fiscal year 2008-2009
For fiscal year 2008-2009, the Division of Workers’ Compensation, Special Disability Trust Fund issued 1,890 reimbursements to employers and their carriers on eligible second injury claims totaling $71,376,979.
The Division has published its first research brief and it addresses compensability requirements
The Division of Workers’ Compensation is pleased to announce the publication of its first research brief. This research brief focuses on the effects of the changes to the compensability requirements in SB 50A, which was the 2003 workers’ compensation legislative reform bill.
