TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—On the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Michael making landfall in the Florida Panhandle, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis is releasing the most current insurance claims data related to the storm and calling on all parties involved to act immediately to make these communities whole.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “It’s hard to believe it has been six months since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle, devastating so many communities. It’s unthinkable that national politics and self-interest has obstructed recovery efforts, especially considering the magnitude of the destruction.

“Panama City is my hometown, and it breaks my heart to know any family is still suffering. My message is simple: Any insurance company who has yet to fulfill their promise to customers must do so immediately; contractors can no longer drag their feet on repairs; and attorneys can’t prey on vulnerable families. We are less than two months away from the 2019 hurricane season and it’s unacceptable that this community is still struggling to get back to normal. Together, we must work to rebuild better and stronger than before.”

Senator George Gainer said, “We are in this together, and I am proud that CFO Jimmy Patronis is continuing to lead the charge when it comes to ensuring Hurricane Michael claims are closed as soon as possible. The road to recovery will take time but the Panhandle is resilient.”

Representative Jay Trumbull said, “As recovery continues, CFO Jimmy Patronis has made it clear that he’s an advocate for Northwest Florida. We must continue to shed a light on the needs of these communities as we work to rebuild their lives.”

Representative Brad Drake said, “With the unwavering support of CFO Jimmy Patronis I know the Panhandle will recover. We have made much progress but there is still so much work to be done. We are all in this together.”

Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier said, “While more than 80 percent of hurricane-related claims have been closed, we will not stop supporting the Panhandle until every consumer is made whole. I thank CFO Jimmy Patronis for his leadership and steadfast advocacy for this community.”
