CFO Jimmy Patronis Hosts Hurricane Michael Insurance Village in Panama City on October 11 & 12

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis will host an insurance village in Panama City on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT. We have invited the top 20 insurance companies in the area to be on hand to assist residents with the insurance claims process.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, "It's been 358 days since Hurricane Michael, a massive Category 5 storm hit Florida’s Gulf Coast, one of only four ever recorded to make landfall in the U.S. The Panhandle still has more than 18,000 open insurance claims, and we continue to hear about some bad actors such as public adjusters, attorneys, and unscrupulous contractors holding up claims. Just as I did before and after the storm, I'm calling on Florida insurance companies to help make these Floridians whole again. We must work together to ensure remaining claims are closed so consumers can move forward with their lives and rebuild—we are at 85 percent closed, but we must get to 100 percent quickly.

"I will be working with Florida's Insurance Consumer Advocate and the Office of Insurance Regulation to determine what actions we can take to ensure the industry brings claims to resolution. It's past time insurance companies step up for the consumers who pay their premiums faithfully month after month. I know with continued local, state and federal support, we can rebuild the Panhandle better and stronger than before."

Residents should bring as much documentation as they can, including:

  • A driver’s license or other form of identification. (Passport/State issued ID)
  • Insurance cards and insurance policy information/documentation.
  • Pictures or documentation of the property being claimed as a loss resulting from Hurricane Michael.
  • Any additional insurance-related information that is readily accessible.
