TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — It's Hurricane Preparedness Week. Wednesday's topic: Updating Your Insurance.

First, you should have an insurance check-up once a year.

Second, you should make sure you have flood insurance. That's different from renter's insurance and takes 30 days before it takes effect.

You should also learn about your flood risk and flood insurance options for your area.

Leon County EMS says it's important to make sure financial investments are protected as we make a plan for hurricane season.

You should prepare your home and cars according to your specific insurance policies to make sure your damages are covered. Lastly, you should know where your insurance documents are and take them with you when you evacuate.
