PENSACOLA, Fla. —The office of Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis created a new website encouraging Floridians to prepare for hurricane season. The initiative focuses on financial and insurance needs.
The website is called Prepare Florida.
The first item on the page is a printable Emergency Financial Preparedness Toolkit that helps users gather the important information needed to file insurance claims. The document is available in English, Spanish, and Creole.
Other resources include a Natural Disaster Guide that defines insurance terms. Other sections explain how to make sure your property is adequately insured and outline the process following an insurance claim.
Patronis said, "While Floridians know all too well the devastation hurricanes can have on their lives, it’s easy to not take the threat seriously. An active hurricane season is predicted, with the possibility of up to 4 major hurricanes. As we saw with Hurricane Michael, hurricanes can form and strengthen quickly, leaving little time to prepare and evacuate."
