CFO Patronis on Protecting and Empowering Florida’s Consumers
2/23/2022
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued the following statement on the House Commerce Committee’s favorable hearing of House Bill 749, Fraud Prevention, sponsored by Representative Clemons. This proposal increases penalties on unlicensed public adjusters who break the law; will combat fraudulent telemarketing calls by requiring licensed warranty agencies to identity their full business name an license number immediately; will force big corporations to allow Floridians to easily cancel subscriptions; and will empower Florida policyholders by ensuring digital insurance applications will communicate with the digital driver’s license. The bill moves next to the House Floor.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “I have made it my mission to empower and protect consumers, which is why this legislative session I’m fighting to force big corporations to allow Floridians to easily cancel subscriptions without forcing consumers to hop through a bunch of hoops. This legislation will work to ensure consumers can cancel a subscription service, the same way they signed up for it. A huge thank you to Chair Ingoglia and the Commerce committee for moving this legislation forward today and to Representative Clemons for fighting for Floridians and advocating for consumers when it comes to fighting fraud and holding big corporations accountable. Representative Clemons and Senator Gruters are working hard to make sure our Fraud Prevention bill crosses the finish line.”
