About Scam Stoppers
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Florida Scam Stoppers is a statewide initiative led by the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) to empower Floridians to report scams, protect their families, and help law enforcement fight fraud. The program collects real-time scam reports from the public, publishes them so others can stay informed, and works directly with investigators to identify emerging threats across the state.
Our mission is simple: Stop scams before they spread.
All scam reports submitted to Florida Scam Stoppers undergo a review process by DFS staff to ensure they are legitimate, appropriate for posting, and do not contain prohibited personal information.
Timeline:
Once Initial Review is completed -
- Notification: You will receive an email once your report is reviewed and approved for publishing.
- Posting: If approved, a simplified summary of your report may take up to 48 hours to appear on the Florida Scam Stoppers website.
We review every report carefully to protect your privacy and ensure accuracy.
Florida Scam Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $25,000 for tips that lead directly to an arrest by the Florida Department of Financial Services' Criminal Investigations Division.
Eligibility depends on:
- Whether your submitted scam report provides actionable information
- Whether the information leads to an arrest by DFS’ criminal investigators
- Compliance with all terms and conditions of the Fraud Fighting Reward Program
For full eligibility criteria please see the Fraud Fighting Reward program page on our website.
Yes. DFS is committed to protecting your information. We do not publicly disclose the identity of individuals who submit scam reports unless required by law. Personal information is removed from public postings.
No. Submitting a report to Florida Scam Stoppers helps alert DFS investigators and other Floridians, but it does not replace making an official police report. If you are in immediate danger or have been the victim of a crime, contact local law enforcement.
If investigators feel your report warrants further documentation, they will reach out to you via the contact information you provide.
You can report any scam targeting Florida consumers, such as:
- Insurance scams
- Investment or crypto fraud
- Contractor or home repair scams
- Government impersonation
- Online or social media scams
- Elder fraud
- SNAP or Food Stamp Fraud
If you aren’t sure whether something qualifies, report it anyway and our team will review it.
