CFO Jimmy Patronis Announces Unclaimed Property Auction in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the Florida Unclaimed Property Auction this weekend in Orlando, with the auction preview beginning on Friday, August 25 at 9 AM EST and the auction beginning on Saturday, August 26 at 9 AM EST. The auction will be held live and in-person at the Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal Orlando at 5916 Caravan Ct Orlando, FL 32819. CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “I’m excited to kick off our unclaimed property auction in Orlando this weekend with some outstanding items to bid on, including a 2-karat diamond platinum ring and a rare 1934 U.S. $1,000 bill. The proceeds generated by this auction are used to help fund education in Florida, and unclaimed property owners can still claim the value of these items at any time. Since becoming your CFO in 2017, I have returned more than $2 billion in unclaimed property back to the pockets of Floridians. An estimated one in five Floridians has unclaimed funds, and I’m encouraging all individuals and business owners to search now for unclaimed property at FLTreasureHunt.gov.”

Unclaimed Property is a financial asset that is unknown, lost, or has been left inactive, unclaimed, or abandoned by its owner. The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances, and refunds. Unclaimed property also includes contents from abandoned safe deposit boxes in financial institutions. Unclaimed property assets are held by business or government entities (holders) for a set period of time, usually five years. If the holder is unable to locate, re-establish contact with the owner and return the asset, it is reported and remitted to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Unclaimed Property.

To search for unclaimed property or to claim an account, go online to www.FLTreasureHunt.gov.
