CFO Patronis Legislative Update for March 22, 2023

Senate Bill 1158 – Department of Financial Services (Senator DiCeglie) – This legislation provides measures to allow for firefighters’ charitable donations by creating a Direct Support Organization (DSO) to support financial efforts to protect their communities and provide life-saving equipment and resources.

  • Senate Bill 1158 was reported favorable in the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee today.

Senate Bill 1398 – Consumer Protection (Senator DiCeglie) – This legislation will require important disclosures at the time of sale to ensure consumers know what they are buying and how it can impact their property insurance costs and will also further protect insurance consumers by improving communication with public adjusters through contract requirements and ensuring the financial motives of public adjusters are in-line with the consumer in their weakest moments.

  • Senate Bill 1398 was reported favorable in the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee today.

Senate Bill 1184 – Agricultural Lands (Senator Collins) – This bill increases the nonresidential farm building just value threshold for certain special assessment and authorizes construction or installation of housing for migrant farmworkers on certain lands.

  • Senate Bill 1184 was reported favorable in the Senate Community Affairs Committee today.

Senate Bill 224 – Special Risk Class Retirement Date (Senator Hooper) – This bill refines Florida’s Retirement System to better serve employees of the state and decreases the retirement date in order to make the program more accessible for state workers.

  • Senate Bill 224 was reported favorable in the Senate Governmental Oversight and Accountability Committee today.

House Bill 221 – Sales of Firearms and Ammunitions (Representative Snyder) – This legislation will prohibit credit card companies from giving weapons and ammunition sales a specific code to identify their purchases.

  • House Bill 221 was reported favorable in the House Agricultural and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee today.

House Bill 337 – Workers’ compensation Benefits for PTSD (Representative McFarland) – This legislation will expand PTSD benefits to 911 dispatchers and Crime Scene Investigators.

  • House Bill 337 was reported favorable in the House Constitutional Rights, Rule of Law and Government Operations Subcommittee today.
