Belkys Nerey: It is still months away, but a specially trained group of first responders is getting ready for hurricane season. Florida Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team is training at their facility in Southwest Miami-Dade. State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis was there to assess their preparedness in the case of a major storm. He talked about why it’s important to have these teams for these situations.

Jimmy Patronis: These are the same men and women that responded to Hurricane Ian for about two weeks on a deployment. Going from home to home, saving peoples lives, reuniting families and leaving their own families for this incredible mission of just unselfish service to our incredible state.
