CFO Jimmy Patronis Honors Former State Comptroller Bob Milligan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis gave remarks at the Florida Capitol during a ceremony unveiling the Bob Milligan Conference Room in the CFO’s Office. Bob Milligan served as Florida Comptroller from January 3, 1995 to January 7, 2003, and honorably served 35-years in the U.S. Marines, ultimately being promoted and retiring as Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific. In 1998, General Milligan was responsible for offering a plan to the Constitutional Revision Commission to combine the state Treasurer and Comptroller into one State Cabinet position - the Chief Financial Officer.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “General Bob Milligan is a Florida legend and an advocate for responsible and accountable government. His leadership and appreciation for government accountability led to the creation of the Chief Financial Officer and helped spark the tradition of fiscal responsibility in the state of Florida for decades. As we honor Bob’s legacy, I am grateful for his service to our country, as a former U.S. Marine and for his continued service to our state after his time as Comptroller. General Milligan’s life of service is a true testament to who he is, and an example of how current and future elected officials should conduct themselves. Future CFO’s and employees will make important decisions in this conference room just as I have during my time in office, so it’s only fitting that the name of the man who started it all would adorn the entrance way. Thank you to former Comptroller Bob Milligan for your incredible service to our state, for your stewardship during your time in office, and for continuing to inspire this CFO, and others after me, to keep our state government accountable to Floridians.”
