CFO & State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis: Suspicious Fire? Report it Now!

~ CFO encourages Floridians to report suspicious fires to help solve cases on Arson Awareness Week ~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, in recognition of National Arson Awareness Week, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis calls on all Floridians to be on the lookout and provide tips on any suspicious activity of potential bad actors who attempt to commit arson-related crimes. Since taking office in 2017, the CFO’s Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations has arrested more than 1,600 individuals for arson related crimes in Florida.

CFO & State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, “In Florida, there is zero tolerance for the costly crime of arson. It’s a deadly crime that destroys property and can often end in tragedy. During 2023 alone, our Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations handled 650 arson cases which led to more than 230 individuals being charged for arson related crimes. Last year, there was an estimated property loss of approximately $22 million attributed the crime of arson. Arson crimes are far reaching and deadly, and our detectives need your tips to keep our communities safe. If you see something suspicious, say something! Report arson immediately to the Florida Arson Tip Line at 1-877-No-Arson.”

To report arson, call 1-877-No-Arson (1-877-662-7766). Tips that lead directly to an arrest and conviction may be eligible for a $5,000 reward. Information can be provided anonymously. The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is a law enforcement branch of CFO Patronis’ Division of Investigative and Forensic Services and conducts fire, arson, and explosives investigations as well as other related criminal investigations statewide.
