CFO Jimmy Patronis Appoints Thomas Koval to Florida Workers’ Compensation Insurance Guaranty Association Board of Directors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the appointment of Thomas Koval to the Florida Workers’ Compensation Insurance Guaranty Association (FWCIGA) Board of Directors. The FWCIGA provides a mechanism for the payment of covered claims, to avoid excessive delay in payment and to avoid financial loss to claimants in the event of the insolvency of a member insurer. Among other tasks, the FWCIGA also evaluates workers’ compensation claims made by insureds against insolvent member companies or funds and determines if such claims are covered claims which should be paid or settled with funds from FWCIGA.

Thomas Koval, Sarasota

Koval retired from FCCI Insurance Group in 2019 but joined its Board of Directors in 2022. During his time with FFCCI Insurance Group, Koval served as Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Chief Legal Officer. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Florida Insurance Council and on its Workers’ Compensation Committee. He also served on the American Property and Casualty Insurance Association’s Legal and Government Affairs Committee and their Federal Affairs Committee. Tom was inducted into the Florida Workers’ Compensation Hall of Fame in 2016.
