TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the appointment of Jim DeBeaugrine to the Florida Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA) Board of Directors. This past legislative session, CFO Patronis submitted many reforms to the Legislature ensuring NICA fulfills its obligations to provide medical care to children with the NICA program. As a result, the Legislature passed SB 1786, which became law July 1, 2021, 766.315(1), Florida Statutes. Additionally, the new law made changes to the board of directors, increasing the board from five to seven members with qualifying attributes.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “I am honored to appoint Mr. Jim DeBeaugrine to the NICA board today. I am confident that he will bring tremendous experience and will be an important asset to NICA’s Board of Directors. These families will forever deal with challenges, but with the recently passed legislation, they will get more relief and support that they so badly deserve. I would like to thank Governor DeSantis, President Simpson, Speaker Sprowls, Senator Burgess, and Representative Koster for working together to help families in need. I sincerely appreciate Mr. DeBeaugrine’s willingness to serve the state of Florida and the families who participate in the NICA program.”
