CFO Patronis Statement on Tax Package Passage from House Ways & Means Committee

2/17/2022
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued the following statement upon passage of the Florida House of Representative’s tax package from the Ways & Means Committee. The House’s tax package included the CFO’s “Home Hardening” initiative, which provides tax relief to homeowners to “harden” their homes from storms by installing impact-resistant windows, impact-resistant doors, and impact-resistant garage doors. The tax package moves next to the House Floor.

CFO Jimmy Patrons said, “A huge thank you to Chair Bobby Payne. Representative DiCeglie and the House Ways & Means Committee for including the Home Hardening proposal in their tax package. In Florida, it’s not if, but when a storm will strike and I am committed to helping Florida families harden their homes against storms while lowering their insurance premiums. There is no doubt that this is a practical way of saving folks money while incentivizing homeowners to better protect their homes from hurricanes. House leadership is doing right by Floridians by including the home hardening initiative in their tax package and I thank them for their hard work.”

In an effort to fight insurance premium hikes CFO Jimmy Patronis announced the Home Hardening proposal in October of 2021 at a meeting of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. The CFO also formed fraud fighting squads along the I-4 corridor, a hot spot for insurance related fraud, to crack down on the kind of fraud that contributes to increasing insurance rates.
