CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis Highlights Labor Day Safety Tips
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis is encouraging Floridians to follow important safety tips for a safe and enjoyable Labor Day. Labor Day is one of the busiest travel days of the year, with millions expected to travel during the holiday weekend.
CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, “On Labor Day, many across our state will be enjoying some well-deserved time off to spend with family and friends. Whether you are spending time grilling out, at the beach, or on the water, please make safety your top priority. It only takes a split second to turn an enjoyable family gathering into a tragic one. By incorporating just a few vital safety tips, you can make sure everyone stays safe this Labor Day weekend.”
2. Don’t Drink and Boat. According to the United States Coast Guard, alcohol is a leading factor in fatal boating accidents. Make sure to follow all boating safety guidelines when operating a boat or personal watercraft.
3. Stay Focused Behind the Wheel. Additional traffic will be on roadways this holiday weekend. Limiting distractions while driving will help you and other drivers stay safe. Writing or sending a text removes your eyes from the road for approximately five seconds, which could put your life and the lives of others in danger.
