CFO Jimmy Patronis Announces Unclaimed Property Auction in West Palm Beach

9/22/2021
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the Florida Unclaimed Property Auction this weekend in West Palm Beach, with the auction preview beginning on Friday, September 24 at 9 AM EST and the auction beginning on Saturday, September 25 at 9 AM EST. The auction will be held live and in-person at the Embassy Suites West Palm Beach, 1601 Belvedere Rd, West Palm Beach, Florida 33406. CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “In Florida, you don’t always need a metal detector to search for lost treasure! I’m excited to kickoff our unclaimed property auction in West Palm Beach this week with some outstanding items to bid on, including an 18-carat gold necklace and 19th Century gold pocket watch. The proceeds generated by this auction are used to help fund education in Florida and unclaimed property owners can still claim the value of these items at any time. Since becoming your CFO in 2017, I have returned more than $1.4 billion in unclaimed property back to the pockets of Floridians. An estimated one in five Floridians has unclaimed funds and I’m encouraging all individuals and business owners to search now for unclaimed property at FLTreasureHunt.gov.”

Unclaimed Property is a financial asset that is unknown or lost, or has been left inactive, unclaimed or abandoned by its owner. The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances and refunds. Unclaimed property also includes contents from abandoned safe deposit boxes in financial institutions. Unclaimed property assets are held by business or government entities (holders) for a set period of time, usually five years. If the holder is unable to locate, re-establish contact with the owner and return the asset, it is reported and remitted to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Unclaimed Property.
To search for unclaimed property or to claim an account, go online to www.FLTreasureHunt.gov.
