WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.— As a part of his Fraud Free Florida initiative, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis encourages Florida’s seniors to register for his “Be Scam Smart” workshops aimed at empowering and protecting them from fraud and scams. To date, CFO Patronis’ consumer advocacy team has hosted over 200 “Be Scam Smart” workshops throughout the state, which reached more than 84,400 seniors.

 

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Reports estimate that seniors lose $36.5 billion every year to financial abuse. Unfortunately, scammers are always finding new and creative ways to steal your money. With Florida’s senior population at more than 20 percent, we must empower and protect this community. Whether it’s a phishing or a charitable donation scheme, one of the best ways to safeguard your finances is with education to help you recognize fraud before you are scammed.”
