TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In recognition of America Saves Week, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis is encouraging Floridians to make saving the cornerstone of their financial plan. Since 2007, America Saves Week has served as a reminder to everyday Americans to pledge to saving successfully.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Saving is a vital part of any financial plan, as it prepares families for unexpected expenses and large purchases like buying a home, college tuition or a wedding.  As CFO, I am committed to not only encouraging Floridians to save, but ensuring Florida remains a good steward of our financial resources. America Saves Week is an important time to encourage all Floridians to make saving a priority. By putting a little money aside each month, you can ensure a strong financial foundation for years to come.”
Three Tips to Find Extra Money Each Month
1. Keep track of everything you spend for a week. You might be surprised what you're buying, and what you can do without.
2. Lower your bills. Many creditors will give borrowers a lower interest rate if they're asked. Also, conserving electricity and gas can make a big difference.
3. Rank your nonessential expenses. Keep the ones you like the best and cut the items on the bottom of the list.
