CFO Jimmy Patronis Unclaimed Property Phone Bank Nets $230K for Tampa Area Residents

12/2/2021
TAMPA, Fla. – Yesterday, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis hosted a live phone bank at WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa. During the phone bank, viewers were encouraged to call in and check for unclaimed property accounts in their name. In less than 15 hours, more than 1,100 individual accounts were found in the Tampa area worth a combined total of more than $230,000. To encourage Floridians to search for unclaimed property, CFO Patronis kicked off his Holiday Money Hunt statewide last week. To view unclaimed amounts in your region, click here.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Tampa just got a little extra holiday cheer in the form of $230,000 in unclaimed cash returned back to area residents. During my Holiday Money Hunt, we are working to return as much money as possible to Florida families during the month of December. It’s the time of year where everyone could use a little extra spending cash, and an unexpected check from the State of Florida could help make things a little brighter this year. Thank you to the team at WFLA News Channel 8 for helping us spread the word about unclaimed property available in the Tampa area. There is still more to be claimed so search now to see if you, your business, or any of your family members have unclaimed property in Florida. It’s free to search and only takes a few minutes! Search right now at FLTreasureHunt.gov."

Unclaimed Property is a financial asset that is unknown or lost, or has been left inactive, unclaimed or abandoned by its owner. The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances and refunds. Unclaimed property also includes contents from abandoned safe deposit boxes in financial institutions. Unclaimed property assets are held by business or government entities (holders) for a set period of time, usually five years. If the holder is unable to locate, re-establish contact with the owner and return the asset, it is reported and remitted to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Unclaimed Property.
