Florida CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis made the trip to Apopka today to take part in their 9/11 memorial.
Patronis joined Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson, Apopka Fire Chief Sean Wylam and Apopka Police Chief Mike Mckinley at the event.
He spoke to residents about the impact 9/11 had on our country and how it is vital students learn about the history of the attacks in the classroom. Patronis says it has been one of the greatest honors of his life as state fire marshal to work with the brave men and women who keep us safe.
"But what our first responders do, it's not just a job, it's a calling. And I’m grateful they answer that call. Our firefighters don't wear boots and helmets seeking attention, they enter the profession knowing that there's risks, and sometimes they may have to ultimately make the ultimate sacrifice in losing their life in the line of duty.”
Patronis says today we pause to remember the lives lost 20 years ago, to honor the service and sacrifice of those heroes with our deepest gratitude.
