**MEDIA OPPORTUNITY** Volunteer Firefighter Weekend Provides Vital Training for First Responders

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis announces the 14th Annual Northwest Florida Volunteer Firefighter Weekend, which will kick off at the Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
 
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “We are expecting record attendance this week with more than 300 fire service personnel from Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee at the 14th Annual Northwest Florida Volunteer Firefighter Weekend. For over a decade, this event has provided thousands of volunteer firefighters with vital training and support. I cannot thank these dedicated volunteers enough for their dedication to protecting their communities.
 
“I would also like to thank the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Foundation, the Florida Forest Service and my team at the Florida State Fire College for their participation in this important fire training event.”
 
Media interested in attending will have the opportunity to view vehicle extrication, wild land operations, live vehicle burning, animal training and more.

The 2019 event includes new classes on Solar Farm Safety, ATV Safety, and Natural Gas Emergencies. It’s free to Florida volunteer firefighters, and local and statewide instructors will be on hand to share expertise. Approximately 25 vendors will be in attendance to demonstrate the latest in firefighting practices and equipment.
 
New firefighters can apply for scholarships at this training event through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants Program.
