CFO Jimmy Patronis: 20K Free Carbon Monoxide Detectors Available to Floridians

SOUTHWEST, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis announced that he has more than 20,000 carbon monoxide detectors available to Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian. Last week, the CFO issued a Public Service Announcement on generator safety. To receive a carbon monoxide detector, please visit the Initial Payment Center in Fort Myers or Port Charlotte. Additionally, fire inspectors from the State Fire Marshal’s office and detectives from the Division of Investigative and Forensic Services (DIFS) are also working to hand out carbon monoxide detectors to impacted Floridians.

CFO & State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, “Having a carbon monoxide detector could mean the difference of life and death. We have detectives and fire inspectors working around the clock to get these in the hands of impacted Floridians, but you can also visit one of the Initial Payment Centers in Port Charlotte or Fort Myers to pick one up. These are free to the public, so please take advantage and go get yours today.”

Bernie Bernoska, Florida Professional Firefighters President said, “A carbon monoxide detector is your first line of defense against this colorless, odorless, toxic gas. Every home with at least one fuel-burning appliance, attached garage or fireplace should have a carbon monoxide alarm. It is especially important during this time of tragedy where the use of generators and risk of CO poisoning are at an all-time high. We at FPF applaud the CFO’s efforts to make sure all Floridians understand the importance of a carbon monoxide detector and have access to free detectors to keep their families safe.”
