TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – TODAY, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis and Katie Patronis discussed their family’s battle with cancer at the Moffitt Day Press Conference at the Florida Capitol. CFO Patronis also outlined one of his top priorities— providing firefighters fighting cancer access to insurance benefits.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, "Today, I was proud to stand with my amazing wife Katie as she shared her battle with breast cancer. We cannot put into words the tremendous support we received from Moffitt Cancer Center. Not only does Moffitt lead in cancer research, but they're also dedicated to finding a cure. CANCER is an ugly word. Moffitt was there for my family when our foundation was rocked. For that, I cannot thank them enough.

“In 2016, cancer caused 70 percent of career firefighter line of duty deaths across the nation. After my wife’s own battle, I know firsthand what families go through when they fight cancer. Firefighters are true heroes and I have made it my top priority as State Fire Marshal to make sure they receive the necessary tools to combat this deadly disease."
