TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis released the following statement and video message ahead of the 20th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States.

CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, “On September 11th, we stop to remember the 2,977 lives, including 343 firefighters tragically lost on this day 20 years ago. It’s hard to imagine that this tragedy occurred two decades ago. I’m sure if you ask most people, they can tell you exactly where they were on this fateful day no matter how many years have passed. I’m reminded today of the great sacrifices our brave firefighters make every day, but especially following the tragedy this year in Surfside. On just a moment’s notice, these heroes answered the call, left their families, and risked their own lives for others - just like they did on 9/11 and continue to do every single day.

“What our brave firefighters do is not just a job, but a calling, and I’m grateful for the sacrifices they make day in and day out. Our great country was forever changed on September 11th, 2001, and we will never forget the lives lost, the lives saved, and the bravery of our first responders that day. Let us continue to pray for the families who were affected by this unthinkable tragedy and for our first responders who continue to selflessly serve our communities in times of their greatest need. May we also pause today and thank the men and women of our nation’s armed forces who tirelessly serve to protect our country at home and abroad. God bless you all.”
