Fingerprinting Information

IMPORTANT:  We do not accept fingerprint results from other vendors or other states.

We do not share fingerprint results with other agencies (e.g. the Department of Business & Professional Regulation, Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, etc.), or other states.

Fingerprinting is a mandatory requirement for almost all of the licenses, registrations, and certifications that we issue. Please check the qualification page for the license or registration you are seeking in order to verify if your application requires fingerprinting.

There are two methods for submitting fingerprints: LiveScan to submit electronically or Fingerprint Cards to submit by mail.  Fingerprint results are processed much faster using the LiveScan method.  Instructions for each method are at the bottom of this page.

To help you determine which method is best for you, when you click on the vendor links, first you will choose, “FL Resident” or “Out of State” Then, based on where you live, will narrow the method for you to use:

  • Florida Resident applicants should register for LiveScan and go to the nearest IdentoGo location to have their fingerprints submitted electronically.
  • Out Of State applicants will enter their zip code on the registration site to view the nearest LiveScan locations.  If there isn’t a location close enough, the option to submit fingerprint cards by mail is available.

Effective July 1, 2018, fingerprint/criminal history results are valid for only ONE (1) YEAR for applicants who do not currently hold a valid Florida Insurance agent license. For an individual applicant who is currently licensed and is seeking an additional license, and the individual has been fingerprinted through us within the last 48 months or FOUR (4) YEARS, that applicant will not be required to submit fingerprints again unless specifically requested by the Department to do so.

By submitting fingerprints, the applicant is consenting to the collection and retention of their fingerprints in order to complete a criminal history background check as part of the application, employment and/or licensing process. The fingerprints will be searched against the database maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the central repository of criminal history records maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

As an applicant who is subject to a national fingerprint-based criminal history record check, you have certain rights based on Title 28, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 16.30-16.34. The rights include a reasonable time to respond to the agency for any deficiencies reported in the criminal history report; the ability to challenge the accuracy of the information in the report by contacting the FBI; and any records held by the agency will be used and retained according to the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements. You may view a copy of these rights for more information.

IMPORTANT: We do not share fingerprint results with other agencies (e.g. the Department of Business & Professional Regulation, Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, etc.), or other states. We do not accept fingerprint results from other vendors or other states.

Applicants with a criminal history, please view this very important information.
