Honoring our Nation’s Heroes this Memorial Day
Memorial Day weekend is a great time to gather with family and friends and reflect on the heroism and bravery of the men and women of our armed forces who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. If you plan on hosting or attending a Memorial Day gathering, please keep safety in mind and don’t let an enjoyable time grilling or boating turn tragic. By following a few safety tips, you can ensure you and your loved ones have a safe Memorial Day. And let us not forget to pray for the families of the fallen from across the country as we honor these heroes who gave everything in defense of the freedoms we enjoy today. We don’t know them all, but we owe them all.
On Tuesday, at the Florida Cabinet meeting, Florida started the process to implement House Bill 3 and prevent financial institutions from using ESG when making lending decisions. I applaud Governor DeSantis and the Legislature for fighting back against ESG and social credit scoring to ensure continued confidence in Florida’s banks and marketplace. Floridians deserve a banking system that works for them and not some corporate activists. Florida is where ESG goes to die, and if an individual or business is targeted by lenders because of their beliefs, we will have the teeth to hold them accountable.
Lastly, with the 2023 Hurricane Season starting on June 1, I am urging Floridians to use the 2023 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday to save money while stocking up on hurricane supplies. NOAA has predicted up to 17 named storms and up to 9 hurricanes this year, so there is no better time to gather hurricane supplies and take advantage of not paying sales tax on many storm-related essentials. A huge thank you to Governor DeSantis and the Legislature for making it easier for Florida families to purchase critical hurricane supplies to ensure our communities are safe this hurricane season. Sincerely,
