The IRS Will Not Get Away with Targeting Floridians

7/14/2023

On Thursday, I announced the launch of the Florida IRS Transparency Portal, which is made for individuals, private businesses, or non-profits to report evidence of discrimination by IRS operatives. We made this announcement at a roundtable discussion in Orlando, where we discussed how with this new Portal, we will be able to find patterns on how the IRS is targeting Floridians, which will help us to craft laws to protect our businesses. I have always felt that transparency is the best disinfectant, and if there's an IRS agent who's bullying a Florida resident, I want to know about it. If you feel you have been targeted by the IRS, I encourage you to report it immediately to the Florida IRS Transparency Portal

On Wednesday, I issued a statement on the news of how Farmers Insurance is planning to shutdown 30 percent of its business in Florida, impacting 100,000 policyholders. This decision reflects what I always say, that when big decisions on insurance are made, the policyholder is rarely in the room. All members of my team are currently putting their heads together in holding Farmers Insurance accountable to Florida policyholders. I have directed my Division of Consumer Service to conduct a deeper dive into Farmers Insurance complaints - and if those complaints hit a certain threshold, it will trigger market conduct investigation that could lead to fines being levied against the carrier.

Sincerely,
