CFO Patronis Legislative Update for March 9, 2023
House Bill 379 – Student Use of Social Media Platforms (Representative Yeager) – This legislation will ban TikTok in Florida K-12 schools and require schools to educate students on social media safety and how it can be utilized in personal and professional life. It also requires school districts to prohibit students from accessing other social media platforms through the use of school internet access.
- House Bill 379 was reported favorable in the House Choice and Innovation Subcommittee today.
House Bill 881 – Fortifying Florida Homes (Representative LaMarca) – This legislation will expand eligibility requirements and increase grant funding so more Floridians can protect their biggest investment against storms and reduce premiums.

House Bill 337 – Workers’ Compensation Benefits for PTSD (Representative McFarland) – This legislation will expand PTSD benefits to 911 dispatchers and Crime Scene Investigators.

House Bill 221 – Sales of Firearms and Ammunition (Representative Snyder) – This legislation will prohibit credit card companies from giving weapons and ammunition sales a specific code to identify their purchases.

House Bill 239 – Special Risk Class Retirement Date (Representative Busatta Cabrera) – This bill refines Florida’s Retirement System to better serve employees of the state and decreases the retirement date in order to make the program more accessible for state workers.
