CFO Jimmy Patronis Announces Arrest of Miami Claims Adjuster for Fraud

MIAMI, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the arrest of Kiyuana Pasley on one count of Organized Fraud, 11 counts of Insurance Fraud, and 11 counts of Grand Theft.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, "Insurance fraud is a costly crime that drives up rates statewide. This arrest shows our continued efforts to fight back against fraudulent individuals who work in the insurance industry. When bad actors choose to defraud policyholders to make a quick buck, they will be caught and held accountable. Thank you to our fraud detectives for their outstanding work on this case and for protecting Florida’s insurance consumers.”

An investigation conducted by the Division of Investigative and Forensic Services (DIFS) revealed that Kiyuana Pasley, a former employee and claim adjuster for Progressive Insurance, allegedly used the identity of numerous claimants to submit fraudulent claims to Progressive Insurance. This resulted in issuing payments to herself and pocketing the settlement funds in the amount of $23,904.08.

Progressive Insurance notified DIFS of the misconduct in November 2022, alleging that while Pasley was employed at Progressive Insurance from 2020-2022, she issued fraudulent payments to herself. Further investigation revealed that Pasley hijacked up to 11 active claims without the knowledge of the insured. She added false information to the claims regarding bodily injury, deductibles, and wage loss payments, before diverting the claim funds on the 11 claims to her personal bank accounts.

Pasley possessed multiple bank accounts which she used to funnel the claim funds. They were funneled and deposited via Chime Financial, Cash App, and online direct deposit. In total, while working as a licensed claim adjuster for Progressive Insurance, Pasley used her insider knowledge of the process to steal $23,904.08 related to 11 PIP claims. Pasley resigned from her position with Progressive Insurance in October 2022 after the discovery of her fraudulent scheme.

Kiyuana Pasley was arrested and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Center. If convicted, she could face up to 60 years in prison.
