CFO Patronis Announces Bill to Help Provide Tax Relief to Small Business

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced his support of the filing of Senate Bill 1030 and House Bill 1001 that will provide counties with the authority to provide tax breaks for small local businesses by allowing local governments to forgo the collection of their business rent taxes. The proposed legislation would give small businesses additional tax relief and allow local governments to exercise better fiscal responsibility of taxpayer dollars.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Washington is broken. The record inflation our country has experienced in the past four years is just another tax imposed on Floridians and Florida businesses. As Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, I have made it a top priority to help small business owners, and this good piece of legislation will provide our small businesses with significant relief by giving local governments the ability to forgo collecting some of their taxes that usually come from small businesses in commercial buildings. This law will provide local leaders with a tool in their toolbox to provide targeted tax relief to small businesses. We have around 400,000 people moving to our state every year, and we must do everything in our power to create a healthy business environment where they can grow and thrive. Thank you to Senator Rodriguez and Representative Stevenson for working together on behalf of Florida taxpayers and small business.”

Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez said, “This legislation is a great tool for Florida small business owners who are feeling the impacts of Bidenomics. Florida’s localities should have the means to help lighten the burden of small business owners working to put food on the table. Thank you to CFO Patronis for his support of this legislation and for his continued commitment to Florida businesses.”

Representative Cyndi Stevenson said, “We are all struggling right now with record high inflation, but no one is feeling it more than our small businesses. With this legislation, business owners will have the opportunity to receive much needed tax relief. Thank you to CFO Patronis for championing this bill, and for your leadership in putting Florida’s business owners and consumers first.”
