DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis announced that members of his Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Bomb Squad Team were deployed to Daytona International Speedway to help ensure safety during the Daytona 500 this weekend. The CID Bomb Squad consists of 12 Certified Bomb Technicians and two Apprentices. CID also has explosive detection K-9s that have been deployed in support of the race.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said “As Floridians and NASCAR fans from around the world eagerly anticipate the Daytona 500 this weekend, our top priority remains the safety of everyone involved. Florida's skilled bomb squad team is the best of the best and will help ensure a secure environment for drivers, crews, and visitors. I am grateful for their dedication and to all the first responders and law enforcement who contribute to making this event successful before and after the checkered flag drops. The Department of Financial Services’ Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations is a branch of the Criminal Investigations Division and is responsible for conducting fire, arson, and explosives investigations as well as other associated crimes statewide. Investigators are sworn state law enforcement officers and are available to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to calls initiated by fire departments, law enforcement agencies and citizens who need assistance conducting fire origin and cause investigations.
