CFO Jimmy Patronis: Florida is Home to 18 of the Top 50 Cities for Fraud Nationwide
4/16/2019
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – To shine a light on Florida’s mounting fraud epidemic, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced troubling recent reports show
Florida is home to 18 of the top 50 cities for fraud reports in the nation — the most of any state. Not only does Florida rank first in fraud reports, but we also rank fourth in identity theft reports nationwide.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Fraud and identity theft rates in Florida are outrageous and totally unacceptable. That's why I'm bringing everyone to the table to combat this out-of-control epidemic that targets seniors, businesses,
and every Florida family. From insurance fraud to spoofing calls, criminals are making a living off of the backs of Floridians by stealing your hard-earned money.
“I'm calling on all Floridians to report fraud today. If you've received a suspicious phone call or believe you or a loved one has been the victim of fraud or identity theft, report it now so
we can work to put these scam artists behind bars."
In February, CFO Patronis launched Fraud Free Florida to better coordinate collective investigative efforts
to protect Florida’s large population, especially seniors, from scam artists. Last month, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams, and State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced their partnership and support of Fraud Free Florida to enhance efforts to fight fraud.
