Notice of Receivership
On March 15, 2011, Seminole Casualty Insurance Company ("Seminole Casualty") was placed into receivership for the purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in and for Leon County, Florida. The Florida Department of Financial Services is the court-appointed receiver of Seminole Casualty. The company consented to the receivership.
Background Information
Seminole Casualty was a property and casualty insurance company which was licensed in Florida in 1988. The company was licensed in 8 states – Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee – but wrote primarily personal and commercial auto only in Florida and Maryland. As of February 28, 2011, the Company had a total of 36,671 Florida personal auto policies, 1,764 commercial auto policies and 2,644 artisan contractors’ general liability policies. Additionally, the Company had approximately 1,161 Maryland personal auto policies in force as of that date.
Notice to Claimants
On April 12, 2017, the court approved the Third Interim Claims Report and Recommendation on Claims. Classes for which funds were available were evaluated and the adjudicated amount owed shown in the Amount Recommended Claimant field along with the Classification of the claimant. The Notice of Determination was waived.
On May 2, 2014, the court approved the First Interim Claims Report and Recommendation on Claims. On May 30, 2014 the Department mailed 33,583 Notice of Determination letters to all known claimants. Classes for which funds were available were evaluated and the adjudicated amount owed shown in the Amount Recommended Claimant field along with the Classification of the claimant. The objection Filing Deadline was July 15, 2014.
On December 12, 2014, the court approved the Second Interim Claims Report and Recommendation on Claims. On December 17, 2014 the Department mailed 12 Notice of Determination letters. Classes for which funds were available were evaluated and the adjudicated amount owed shown in the Amount Recommended Claimant field along with the Classification of the claimant. The objection Filing Deadline was January 30, 2015.
Distribution Made to Claimants
On May 21, 2018, there were 446 distribution checks, totaling $979,588.47, mailed to claimants in the Seminole Casualty estate. These checks represent 100% of the Class 1 claims, and 66.4389% of the Class 2 claims. There are no further distributions anticipated for this estate. Claimants receiving a distribution check have until July 27, 2018 to request a reissue, as stated in the Notice Regarding Time Sensitive Distribution Checks which accompanied their checks.
