Notice of Receivership

On November 4, 2011, HomeWise Preferred Insurance Company (“HPIC”) was ordered into receivership for purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Leon County, Florida. The Florida Department of Financial Services is the court appointed Receiver of HPIC. The company was previously ordered into rehabilitation on September 2, 2011.

Background Information

HPIC, a Florida corporation licensed in 2006, was headquartered in Tampa, Florida. The company primarily wrote homeowners insurance coverage. It was licensed in three states – Florida, Texas and South Carolina.

On August 30, 2012, the Receiver mailed Proof of Claim forms to all known claimants for HomeWise Preferred Insurance Company. The deadline for filing a Proof of Claim is November 4, 2012. If you have not received a Proof of Claim form, please contact the Receiver to obtain a form.

Notice to Claimants
On January 5, 2016, the Court approved the Department 's Claims Status Report and authorized the Department to refrain from evaluating claims in Classes 2-11 and dropped the requirement that the Department file a claims report for those Classes with the Court regarding those claims unless the HPIC estate recovers additional assets sufficient to make distributions beyond Class 1. The Court also dropped the requirement to mail any additional notifications to claimants with claims in Classes 2-11 unless it becomes necessary to evaluate claims in those classes. A distribution of $3,997,232.89 was made to FIGA in June 2017. This amount, coupled with the $3,500,000 distributed to FIGA over the life of the estate as early access, represented 36.1520% of the guaranty association's Class 1 claims. No further distributions are anticipated.

Estate Closed
