  • Notice of Receivership

    Effective October 1, 2018, Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company ("Sawgrass") was ordered into receivership for purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in and for Leon County, Florida.  The Florida Department of Financial Services ("Department") is the court appointed Receiver.

    Sawgrass was a homeowners insurance company located in Sunrise, Florida. Sawgrass was licensed in Florida in 2007 as a domestic insurer and commenced business in 2009.  Sawgrass had no active polices at liquidation.

    All insurance policies issued by Sawgrass were cancelled on September 1, 2017.  Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company ("Heritage") provided replacement policies for Sawgrass policyholders.

    POLICY INQUIRIES: Sawgrass had no active policies at liquidation. Heritage will respond to questions from policyholders at (855) 620-9978.

    CLAIMS INQUIRIES:  Questions regarding the status of existing claims or to report a new claim related to a Sawgrass policy should be directed to Heritage at (855) 415-7120 Option 1. 

    Information regarding the method for filing claims in the liquidation proceeding will be available on the Department's website at www.myfloridacfo.com/division/receiver. Under the liquidation order, the deadline for filing claims in the Sawgrass receivership is May 28, 2019.

    Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company (“Sawgrass”) was ordered into receivership for purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Leon County, Florida effective October 1, 2018. The Florida Department of Financial Services is the court appointed Receiver of Sawgrass.

    Sawgrass was a homeowners insurance company located in Sunrise, Florida. Sawgrass was licensed in Florida in 2007 as a domestic insurer and commenced business in 2009. Sawgrass had no active polices at liquidation.


    ​Transfer of Policies to Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company took place on 09/05/2017.  The Office of Insurance Regulation entered into a Consent Order September 1, 2017 with all parties, to transfer the policies of Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company (Sawgrass) to Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company (Heritage).

    Sawgrass’s policies will be canceled effective September 1, 2017, and replaced with short-term replacement policies providing the same coverage issued by Heritage, effective September 1, 2017. The unearned premium from the cancellation process will be provided to Heritage. Heritage will provide coverage for the unexpired portion of the Sawgrass policy.
