CFO Patronis Applauds Gov. DeSantis Signing of My Safe Florida Home Expansion

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis applauded Governor Ron DeSantis for signing legislation to fund and improve the My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) program. The successful MSFH program provides free home inspections and up to $10,000 in grants to allow Florida homeowners to strengthen their home against storms with home hardening products like impact resistant doors and windows, while cutting insurance costs through mandatory home mitigation discounts. Legislation signed into law today provides an additional $200 million in funding for the program. Since 2022, the program has successfully completed more than 104,000 free home inspections, approved more than 38,000 grant applications, and obligated nearly $390 million in home hardening grants. Since May of 2022, the state has invested more than $600 million in the My Safe Florida Home program to help Floridians harden their homes and reduce insurance costs.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature, the My Safe Florida Home Program will receive another round of $200 million in funding, beginning July 1, 2024. The new funding will provide grants for nearly 20,000 Floridians with special priority going to help Florida’s seniors and low-income homeowners first. There is no better time than right now to harden your home against storms and cut your homeowners insurance costs. Homeowners who completed the program reported an average savings of roughly $1,000 on their insurance premiums. Another hurricane season is fast approaching and unfortunately, Mother Nature loves our state and it’s not if but when a major storm will take aim at Florida. Don’t wait to protect your biggest investment from storms – your home.”

Insurance Consumer Advocate Tasha Carter said, “The My Safe Florida Home program has proven to be beneficial to Floridians by not only hardening their homes but also realizing savings on insurance premiums. I am grateful to Governor DeSantis, CFO Patronis and the Legislature for prioritizing consumers and helping them protect one of their largest assets – their home.”

The Governor also signed legislation today to create a My Safe Florida home condominium pilot program. For more information, please visit
