During the Cabinet Meeting, the Governor and Cabinet voted to approve the publication and final adoption of the rules related to the program and implementation of House Bill 635. The grant, which allocates $1 million in funding for dental programs specifically designed for veterans, emphasizes the importance of maintaining good oral health as a critical component of overall well-being. The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reports that only 15% of veterans are eligible to access dental services through the VA.

Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the launch of a study to determine how gold and silver bullion can be used as legal tender in the State of Florida. Currently, gold and silver can be purchased as investment vehicles but cannot be used as money to buy goods and services. CFO Patronis’ groundbreaking study is a major first step toward the potential use of gold and silver as money in the state, and would have the added benefits of being a tax-exempt hedge against inflation and devaluation of the U.S. Dollar, as well as an alternative form of currency to protect Floridians from Central Bank Digital Currencies.

Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis warned consumers to beware of potential scams surrounding Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday as Floridians begin their search for holiday shopping deals and offers. CFO Patronis offered tips to avoid becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft this year, as consumers are expected to spend 19% more than they did last year during the Thanksgiving holiday. In 2023, American’s donated over $3.1 billion to charitable causes during Giving Tuesday.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment. Additionally, the NFPA recommends you test your smoke alarm at least once a month and replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.

Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued an official letter to major U.S. banks warning against a coordinated activist campaign to “de-bank” meat and dairy businesses. More than 100 activist organizations are targeting the nation’s largest banks in an effort to cut off financial services for meat and dairy livestock and animal feed production, which they say will stop climate change. In his letter, CFO Patronis made it clear that Florida will not tolerate any form of financial discrimination against its livestock or agricultural industries, that no one has the right to take food off of Floridians’ tables, and that he stands ready to assist financial institutions in resisting the climate activists’ radical demands.

Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the arrests of Rochell Green and Breana Ferguson, both employees of the health care company Aetna. Green and Ferguson allegedly submitted at least 42 false insurance claims and uploaded false documentation to support their claims. The scheme took place from 2019-2023 and resulted in Green receiving more than $408,000 and Ferguson receiving more than $736,000 from their false claims.

Since CFO Patronis took office in 2017, nearly $2.6 billion in unclaimed property has been returned to Florida citizens. For the month of September, CFO Patronis returned more than $33 Million in Unclaimed Property to Floridians.
