TALLAHASSEE – Florida CFO Alex Sink today released the following statement in remembrance of the December 7, 1941, attacks on Pearl Harbor:
“Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is a reminder that we must always be thankful for the sacrifices of our military and the brave history of those who have fought for our freedom. I urge Floridians to take today to honor our greatest generation, including those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, and the brave men and women currently fighting abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan. All of our veterans and troops deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for their tremendous bravery and service.”
When war was declared on December 8, 1941, more than 250,000 Floridians signed up to serve in the U.S. military. Today, Florida is home to five major naval bases and installations in the communities of Pensacola, Panama City, Milton, Mayport and Jacksonville.
