CFO Jeff Atwater Announces Free Financial Protection Workshops in Miami-Dade County
TALLAHASSEE- In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today announced that the Department of Financial Services, in partnership with the Preferred Care Partners Medical Group, will host free financial safety workshops for seniors next week in Miami-Dade County. These workshops, taught in Spanish, will teach seniors and their family members how to spot a scam, how scams work and the steps they can take to protect themselves.
Known as ‘Be Scam Smart’ workshops, these events are hosted statewide as part of CFO Atwater’s Operation S.A.F.E. (Stop Adult Financial Exploitation) initiative, which focuses on financial frauds and scams, such as IRS, fake lottery and romance scams. Scams that target seniors prey on this generation’s good nature and convince them to take a chance on something that is too good to be true.
For more information, to register or request a workshop, please visit
