Top 10 Consumer Scams of 2018

As technology advances, scam artists are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their attempts to deceive us by stealing our money and personal information. The top ten scams for 2018 produced some familiar frauds such as tech support scams, online purchase scams and home improvement scams, but the number one scam was the employment scam. Victims of employment scams are led to believe that they are applying or have just been hired for a promising new career when instead they have, in fact, given personal information or money to scammers for “training” or “equipment.” You can protect yourself from this scam by not sending any money to potential employers and researching the opportunity before sharing personal information.

Although fraud can occur in many forms, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) compiled a list of the Top 10 Riskiest Scams of 2018 in the 2018 BBB Scam Tracker Risk Report.

Be alert and protect your personal and financial information by visiting our Consumer Alerts page for information and also view our list of common Fraud & Scams.
