The Department of Financial Services serves as the Receiver of any insurer placed into receivership in Florida. The Division of Rehabilitation and Liquidation plans, coordinates and directs the receivership processes on behalf of the Department.

On this website, you will find general information regarding the receivership process and specific information about the insurance entities that have been placed into receivership by the court.

Liquidation of Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company

Effective October 1, 2018, Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company ("Sawgrass") was ordered into receivership for purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in and for Leon County, Florida. The Florida Department of Financial Services ("Department") is the court appointed Receiver.

Sawgrass was a homeowners insurance company located in Sunrise, Florida. Sawgrass was licensed in Florida in 2007 as a domestic insurer and commenced business in 2009. Sawgrass had no active polices at liquidation.

All insurance policies issued by Sawgrass were cancelled on September 1, 2017. Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company ("Heritage") provided replacement policies for Sawgrass policyholders.

Insurance Company of the America's ("ICA") was a workers’ compensation insurance company that went into liquidation in Florida on January 24, 2018. Information about the company’s liquidation can be found on the ICA pages on this site.

Guarantee Insurance Company ("GIC") was a workers’ compensation insurance company that went into liquidation in Florida on November 27, 2017. Information about the company’s liquidation can be found on the GIC pages on this site.

Proof of Claim Mailing: The Department began mailing Proof of Claim forms on February 22, 2018 to policyholders, injured workers, employees, general creditors, premium finance companies and various government agencies. On May 16, 2018 Proof of Claim forms were mailed to Agents. The claim filing deadline is November 27, 2018. More information can be found here: GIC pages.

NOTICE TO MICHIGAN CLAIMANTS:

Michigan claimants need to go to the Michigan Property & Casualty Guaranty Association website at http://www.mpcga.com/claim_information/ and complete a Statement of Claim Form and the Workers' Compensation Questionnaire in order for the guaranty association to begin processing their claims.

 

Penn Treaty Network America Insurance Company and American Network Insurance Company are affiliated long-term care insurance companies that went into liquidation in Pennsylvania on March 1, 2017. Information about the companies’ liquidation can be found on Penn Treaty’s website.
