Insurance Agency Operating without Valid License
The Florida Department of Financial Services was contacted regarding a company that issued a commercial Farm policy to a consumer, but did not respond to a claim following Hurricane Helene damage. When the consumer provided declaration pages showing company names, it was discovered that none of the names involved had Florida company codes or licenses. Public Adjuster Fradulently Witheld Appraisal Award Payments
The Department of Financial Services received a complaint from an insurance consumer regarding a public adjuster fraudulently withholding more than $42,000 awarded by the insurance company for a homeowner's insurance claim. After the contact they issued payment to the insured of only $27,000. The public adjuster listed several questionable fees covering the difference and was unable to provide evidence of having contacted the insured. After contacting the Department, the consumer received full payment of the insurance claim for repairs on their home. Missappropriated Settlement Funds
A Marion County woman reported a public adjuster has stolen her portion of a settlement check. The woman endorsed the check that had been given to the adjuster expecting her portion of the payout to be deposited in her bank account but it never has and now the adjuster has left the agency they were working with while being unresponsive to the woman's attempts to contact her.
