Insurance Agent Scams Consumer Into Health Insurance Policy
The Department of Financial Services received a report of a Leon County woman who felt she was scammed into agreeing to a new and unneeded health insurance policy after being approached by an insurance agent claiming to work for her insurance company. The consumer has insurance through her employer but the agent said he could get her a discount on her plan and took her information. He did not contact her again and when completing her taxes she found the information had been used to open a policy in her name. The Department of Financial Services received a complaint that an insurance policy was written in the name of a Suwannee County Jail inmate, The inmates personal information was targeted and stolen via identity theft and used to open the fraudulent insurance policy.
