Falsified Life Insurance Application

The Department of Financial Services received a complaint from a consumer of unapproved enrollment in an Americo Financial life insurance policy that they never signed up for. The consumer stated that their personal information was improperly used to apply for the policy. Enrolled in Fradulent Marketplace Policy

A Polk County woman discovered she had been enrolled in a marketplace health plan even though she had existing coverage. After contacting the Florida Department of Financial Services, it was determined that the allegations of unauthorized enrollment were substantiated. Agent Uses Other Agent Information For Unauthorized Plan Enrollment

The Department of Financial Services was contacted by a licensed agent to report that they had been signed up for an unauthorized Marketplace plan by another agent using their private information. The insurance company's investigation also confirmed that the policy was unauthorized. The agent has several other complaints against them including from other insurance agents in addition to the agent who initially contacted the department. Unauthorized Policy Written for County Jail Inmate

The Department of Financial Services received a complaint that an insurance policy was written in the name of a Suwannee County Jail inmate, The inmates personal information was targeted and stolen via identity theft and used to open the fraudulent insurance policy. If you feel you have been illegally enrolled in an insurance plan, contact the Florida Department of Financial Services immediately at 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (693-5236). Consumers should also report any signs of ID Theft to the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov.


Streaming Service Spoof

Consumers have reported that scammers are sending fraudlent emails posing as legitimate streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu, in an attempt to steal personal identifying information and credit card numbers. The fraudulent emails often mimic the branding of popular subscription services and will use scare tactics, such as claiming your account has been locked or payment has failed. The goal: get you to click a malicious link or share your financial information. Do not click these links. If you have an account for the streaming service, log in through their website/application directly, NOT from the e-mail to check your account status.
